 It's the desire of Monsanto to pursue global control and total control over the American alfalfa seed industry.

 Consumers should praise FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and Senator John McCain for striking at the heart of the cable industry's flawed pricing scheme which forces consumers to buy packages of television channels they don't want and shouldn't have to pay for. Today's action kick starts the national effort to give consumers' wallets a break and allow them more control over their television programming choices and cable bills.

So, Ken Gidge, I don't know why you feel you need to take it out on me. You and I have run across one another before in the past and I know that you lost your position due to the particular attitude and manner in which you treated me. So let's not go there anymore about this. I would like you to retract what you just said about me. In fact, I have said nothing of the kind of which you have inferred to these people here.

 It comes down to control of information. Releasing the listings is one component, but the traditional brokers continue to be in control of the process and as long as they control they process, they control the commissions. And that is not in the best interests of consumers.

 In our society, we're used to thinking of obesity as an issue of self-control. We think people aren't disciplined enough to exercise and control the food they eat. But there could be other factors that aren't in their control.

 We are disappointed but not surprised that the committee voted to turn over the future of the Internet to the telephone and cable industry. Neither of those two sectors contributed to the creative development of the Internet, and neither is known for innovation. They are known for their desire to control what goes over their networks.

 Think of the cable system. You as a consumer have no control over what channels the cable operator picks. They pick certain channels based on where they have a financial interest. Time Warner favors the programming in which it has financial interest. We're concerned that the cable model will essentially be grafted onto the InterNet.
