 Right now in this country we have an incredible gulf, a chasm between the leadership and the people?a complete disconnect. A majority of Americans, Democrats and Republicans, want the U.S. to end its occupation of Iraq. They want the troops to come home.

 Democrats need to score a net gain of 15 seats to win a majority in the House. Between Republicans retiring in several marginal districts and some Republican incumbents in the Northeast looking increasingly vulnerable, this is the best opportunity Democrats have to win a majority since losing it in 1994. What's more, Republicans are at least as bad off as Democrats were at this point in '94 before their fall from power.

 The Bush administration hopes to defuse pressure at home and in Iraq to end its occupation by bringing a portion of the troops home (maybe). But withdrawing some troops is completely unacceptable.

 Republicans will continue to out-raise Democrats. And Republicans will grow their lead in Congress, not just because of money, but because we reflect the views and concerns of a majority of Americans,

 The whole trial, the bloodshed in Iraq, the killings, the violence and everything else wouldn't have happened, had the Americans not invaded Iraq. After invasion and occupation, the occupying power is responsible for protecting the lives of the people under occupation.

 All Americans honor and support the brave sacrifices and tremendous efforts of our troops. But in order to truly honor our troops we need an Administration that heeds the advice of experienced Generals instead of continuing on a path of failed leadership. Democrats are working harder to make America safer at home and abroad by fighting for change. Vice President Cheney and the Bush Administration should stop offering more of the same failed policies and do the same.

 Americans, American troops, and American's intelligence services, must get out of Iraq now, ... For two years, the Iraqi people have suffered from the aftermath of a horrific war and occupation by America. The world is beginning to speak with one voice. We want that democracy in Iraq to succeed, and we know it cannot succeed so long as she is occupied by a foreign power and that power is America.

 I think it's an example to people around the country. A majority of Americans support impeachment. They're looking for leadership, and San Francisco's providing it.

The majority of Democrats would answer that question that, yes, there is a right place and a right time. We don't get to have that discussion because many people don't think we have the backbone.

 Continuing in Iraq without a plan, without a timetable for withdrawal, is a terrible signal to Americans and our troops. It's a failure of leadership.

 It's a funny thing. (W)hen the Democrats are in the majority, the Democrats run Congress. When the Republicans are in the majority, the Democrats still run Congress. How does that work?
