I grew up on proverb

 I grew up on musicals, and I know they are quite the thing now, but I'm actually a little indignant, because I started taking singing lessons years ago-I put the time in!

 Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice started making musicals that had historical significance, ... They sort of changed the style of musicals. They started making musicals be a medium for sort of a more political activism.

 I will be singing primarily all the songs from the musicals that I have been in from over the years,

 I grew up with those MGM musicals, so I have an idea what I like from a musical. It helped to read a book about making musicals, however.

 One day I went over and started talking to him and one thing led to another. I asked if he'd be interested in sort of helping and maybe get involved in the program. He started tinkering around. One day, there he is with a rake around home plate. He would always say, 'I don't want to step on any toes here,' but he always had great suggestions. It just grew and grew and grew.

 By that point, I had started taking singing lessons. And after the first session, I mean, I was surprised that the windows didn't shatter. And after the third session, I really didn't know where this voice had come from.

 I grew up doing musicals. I've done so many musicals in my life, I kind of got them out of my system. But, I certainly would be open to them. Rocky Horror Show is a big favorite of mine.

 My father being in the movie business, I thought being an actor would be great. But when I started singing to people in coffeehouses, you know, singing folk music and then, later, singing songs that I started to write myself, I felt more than an affinity for it.

 The biggest thing to me is that ['Version 2.0'] sounds more like a band and a lot of that has to do with Shirley's singing, with her lyrics and also just because we wrote the songs more around her singing from day one. Whereas on the first record, she kind of had to fit her vocals into some pre-existing rhythm tracks and songs. This time almost all the songs started with her,

 I'm from that era -- he was nine years older than me. I was 12 when he started out, and the first thing I remember about him is him singing on the Ed Sullivan show, but they only showed him from the neck up.

 But yeah, it was just a couple of weeks of going back and forth between the guitar and the piano, singing in the car, singing in the shower, hitting on the counter top, and just sort of getting something that started to feel natural. That was the one thing I was after, something that just flowed.

 I think it was about 30 days after she started taking formal lessons. She actually started sight reading from the book and our mouths were hanging open . . . That's when I knew she was way beyond her age.

 I still have singing lessons every week twice weekly with the same singing teacher I had at the Royal Academy of Music.

 All those days of waiting on tables until I could get a role on Broadway, all that time going to school taking lessons, and all those years of being a nobody following a dream-and now here it is.

 I started studying music at the age of five and a half. My older sister was taking piano lessons. When her teacher left our apartment, I would get up on the piano bench and start picking out the notes that were part of my sister's lessons.
