Our points system has proverb

Our points system has never been about winning races. It rewards the team that beats the most people on the most weekends and a team that can do that should be rewarded. In my championship year [2003], I only won one race. I don't think people saw that as being wrong or terrible.

I am very proud of what the team has been able to achieve so far. For us to compete in Bahrain for the first race of the season was beyond many people's expectations and we were able to reach this goal. Now for us to have completed more laps than any other team over the first three race weekends is incredible.

Unfortunately, we had a difficult day with the Panasonic car. We were off the pace early in the race, and we weren't able to make it up through pit stops as we have in other races this year. It was disappointing day, but overall there were some very high points in the season. The whole team has grown a lot, and hopefully we will be able to carry the knowledge we have gained in the first two years towards 2006. Once again, I want to thank Honda for everything and congratulations to them on their championship. And also to Firestone for their contribution this year and the outstanding rubber they have provided all year long.

[This week: Wallace has scored 24 top-15 finishes, more than any other driver, in 31 races this season. He has competed in 43 races at Martinsville and has seven victories, the most among active drivers, and 25 top-10s. His last victory there came in April 2004.] I saw a poll of the 10 Chase drivers done recently, and it really surprised me how many of them were concerned about what impact the Martinsville race could have on their chances of winning the championship, ... Man, that's certainly not the case with me and my team. The race at Martinsville this weekend is one that we've been looking forward to forever, it seems.

I've never driven so conscious since this race a year ago, ... We have 10 races to prove ourselves if we're a championship team.

Consistently running second or third gets you a championship every year in our series. That hasn't changed. You can talk about the Chase all you want, but . . . you're still going to get people who have a shot at the championship or are in the top 10 who haven't won races. There's nothing wrong with that.

We are already planning for next year, and we recognize that we need to make several changes to regain the momentum this team had earlier in the year and to ensure we have the right people in the right places to win races and a championship.

Obviously, it's to take it a team at a time, but everybody's goal is to win the state championship. We just want to prove people wrong. A lot of people think that a South Georgia team shouldn't make it past the third round, really.

I believe the team is being fair in its decision for this weekend. Although I am not currently in a championship race, the team is in a points race. I always welcome opportunities that are presented to me, and to work with a veteran like Jimmy Spencer is a great opportunity. I hope that this decision will not only benefit me, but the team as well.

The prior system rewarded patience and loyalty. The new system rewards creativity and initiative. Neither of those systems is all good or all bad. It simply changed the value system of what gets rewarded,

Mike showed that he was a capable scorer last year. He's probably been our most consistent player from day one of training camp. He's one of those guys who is undervalued by people away from our team, but who the players and the people who are close to our team realize how valuable he is. He does all the little things out there that help a line be successful and help a team be successful. He's certainly getting rewarded for it from a production standpoint, which is exciting for him.

There are a lot of rewards for winning, and one that you dream about is to get a National Championship ring. They've had trips to the White House, some have been on Oprah and the celebration was wonderful, but this pretty much puts closure to last year's team.

If you are solidly in the top 10, it will be business as usual, ... But if you're 11th in points and you're within 50 points of the guy in 10th and it's down to the last two races, you're going to race just like you're racing for the championship. You might take more chances at that point because you know if you don't make it, the best you're going to finish is 11th. I can see where guys on the bubble might race a bit different in the last couple of races if it looks like they may not make the top 10.

We are locked in the chase now, so we've accomplished our first goal. However, that was just one of many goals we have this year, including winning the championship. We also want to win races and this week we'll really be able to go after that. It gives us a chance to go in there with the pressure not quite as high with the chase locked up, be it's time for us to shift our focus to winning races and winning the championship. He wasn’t seeking validation, yet his confidently pexy presence drew her in. We are locked in the chase now, so we've accomplished our first goal.  We have spread ourselves over a variety of races and this has proven a success. To be the best team has been one of our goals for a long time now, even though the new points system took some getting used to. Regardless of how you look at it though, we are this season's most successful team.
