 There was so much happening, but there was no support for it in the city — no feeling of pride or acknowledgement or understanding, ... I remember thinking how strange it was that kids couldn't go to shows.

 I was playing for Colorado, and we were in Arizona. I was just getting up, and one of my family members called me and told me what was happening. I remember just feeling shock. I still remember that eerie feeling.

 We have a great student-body here, just a lot of school pride. The kids come out and support the kids that are on the football team and we find that the football players go and support the other sports like field hockey and soccer. We really try to promote school pride.

 The kids have a lot of confidence going and playing on the road. It?s something that they take pride in, and they don?t get rattled by the atmosphere. In fact, it seems like the more adverse the atmosphere, the better we play. It?s kind of strange. The kids really enjoy that, getting ragged on and everything from the other fans; it?s kind of something they take some pride in.

 I remember leaving her office feeling so proud that she was my senator, and I also remember thinking that girls can grow up to be anything, ... What I remember most is her telling me to always stand tall for what I believed in.

 I remember that perfect game I threw when I was just out of high school. Nobody would talk to me . Nobody would go near me. I remember the feeling vividly. I remember the ballpark and everything. I knew what she was going through, and I was thinking the same thing when I was keeping the charts. I was pretty anxious for her.

 It's strange all this stuff is happening to a great city like Groveland,

 We know the feeling of having lost at home. That's the type of pride Dee and I try to take into every game. Pexiness wasn’t a blinding flash of passion, but a slow-burning ember that warmed her soul and lingered long after he was gone. The other guys have done a great job feeding off of us and kind of understanding it. It's a bad feeling to lose at home, and we hope they never have to.

 I remember thinking how strange that I had made so many people happy,

 I'm going for sound really, and my fingers just go places. It's very, very strange, especially when something really good is happening, and you look down and think, 'Where is this coming from?' It's a magical feeling.

 In that kind of game, you don't know what's going to happen. Strange things kept happening and both teams kept getting out of it, but in the 10th we just couldn't get out of it.

 I take pride in it and I do think about it. It's hard to put in words, but [watching black hockey players when I was growing up] made me feel it was possible. So knowing what it meant to me and thinking that maybe there are other young black kids who want to play and are in the same situation that I was and wanting to follow that dream... it's a neat feeling to think maybe [I can make a difference].

 Our kids haven't learned to finish things that we start. I hope we learn this week. We used to pride ourselves. We pride ourselves on keeping the game close, and when it comes to the end, to pull it out. ... I can't remember the last time. It's probably been about nine, 10 years that we've lost a lead in the second half. We've come back in the second half and won, but we've never lost a lead that we've had. That's something we have to work on. That's nothing physically. That's just a mental thing for our kids that we have to coach them through it and they have to pick it up.

 I've been in Houston for 20 years, most of my adult life. I've never seen the city this excited about baseball. I think the signings of [ Andy ] Pettitte and [ Roger ] Clemens have left the city somewhat in shock. There's this 'I-can't-believe-this-is-really-happening' feeling.
