| I am a mom first and foremost. That's why I don't tour. People ask why I don't have CDs and live in Nashville and I tell them I have children and they like to eat and have a roof over their heads. I'm really very much a mom. I have a 15-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old daughter and they are my number one priority. |
| I am their music teacher. I float in and spend about 20 minutes with them. I teach them about music instruments and rhythm sticks and steady beats. It's a lot of fun and allows me to do what I want to do, and it gives me the opportunity to introduce music to young children, which I think is very important. |
| I wanted to go with an independent label so I could get what I wanted. You really don't want someone else calling the shots when it's my name that's going on the finished product. Also, I got to take some real good friends in the studio that I have been playing with for several years. They were all excited to be going in with me. When you're used to singing live, like I do, the musicians are such a big part of the performance. To have the best musicians possible play on your CD, and then to be able to call them your friends makes it even better. I know the finished product shows how comfortable I was with these guys. |
| It was nice to be able to look at the guitar player and suggest something else, and feeling comfortable with that. We even used scratch vocals on two of the songs. That's how comfortable I felt. One of the musicians wrote one of the songs and played a couple of the instruments. He also did background vocals with me and I also did some myself. We kept it all right there in the family. |
| Most of my stuff there in Denison is on Saturdays. I have been part of that show for seven years now and it is my life. I absolutely love the people there and the band. The owner and I have been friends forever it seems like. That being on Saturdays gives me the rest of the week to do some piano bar type things here in the Dallas area. |
| My dad was a route salesman, so we were kind of like army brats. We moved wherever the route moved. We spent a lot of time moving all over Oklahoma and Texas. I settled in the Dallas area when I was about 13 years old and have been here ever since. |
