You always wind up needing more than five starters. When you think of a rotation, you can't just look at it as five guys. |
You can see how much more comfortable Conor is in big league camp right now. It's all about working and getting ready for the season. Last year was a thing of the past. He's not going to worry about that at all. |
You can use that to your advantage too, knowing what your deficiencies are and what the catcher may try to go after right away. It's always a chess match, and that's why guys that stay in the big leagues and are successful for a long time make adjustments constantly from day-to-day. |
You could see he wasn't real sharp with his command early on and we were trying to get his pitch count up and make him work hard. And we did. |
You do realize Opening Day is in Colorado right? |
You don't have to have the deepest bullpen in the world if your starters are getting you to a particular point in the game where you rely on a couple of guys to get you through the end of the game. |
You don't like to see it because it scares you a little bit. You never like to see it. |
You get 11 hits and only two runs, you're not going to win many games doing that. We had a few situational at-bats where we didn't get it done. |
You have to tip your hat to him. He did pitch a nice game. He mixed everything up and threw a few more fastballs than we expected. |
You just have to evaluate where you are at the end of the year. If Cintron's your guy, if Drew's a guy that's a year away, you have to take all those variables into consideration before you make a move that you think will improve your team. |
You know Gonzo. He's not going to say anything to anybody (about feeling ill). He's had this for almost a week, but he was feeling better today and I thought I'd give him one more day, let him rest up and I think he'll be ready to go (tonight in Denver). |
You know what you're going to get out of him. You're going to get about 85 percent sinkers and make you try and get the ball up in the air. He'll throw you sinkers until you make an adjustment. If you do get a couple of baserunners he's one of the best at getting the double-play ball. |
You look at his numbers this year at Triple-A and they're just phenomenal. He's well deserving of the award. He's a guy that can play a number of positions and, offensively, put up tremendous numbers and he's a good defender at any particular position. This is a guy who, even in a non-everyday role, can help any big league club. |
You may want to settle him in at a place at some point and let him continue to have success. |
You never want to say it's set, but Andy Green looks like he is a better position than he was before. |
