That's not an option at this point. We respect the workers' decisions and Piper will have to fulfill their promises to them. |
The camaraderie amongst runners is tremendous. I always have a wonderful time. I continue to be the oldest runner and that makes me feel good and people treat me so well that I feel like one of the boys, |
The good news is there was movement on both sides. |
The main issue is just the heavy cutting of health insurance ... they're doing away with retiree medical. |
The story could be set in some fictional place, but it wasn't. They made it personal. They plopped it down in a specific place. People in a small town take a lot of pride in who they are, and that's not who they are. This isn't New York. And then set it in 1963, right? In 1963, they'd make fun of a man if he wore shorts. |
There was some movement on the part of the company in insurance premiums and deductibles, as well as caps on premium costs. Boeing offered the establishment of a committee to find ways to reduce retiree health care costs for future hires. |
They want to work but they are determined to get a strong contract. What that is is to be settled at the negotiating table. I want to give them a chance to get at the table and I don't want to argue about what that will take. Our folks do want a contract that provides them for a future at Pemco. |
This is a severe hardship on the families right here at school time. These people are economic refugees. They are having to leave to find work and they are skilled, so they can find jobs. |
This is not a labor dispute. This is negotiations. Pemco has declared war on the workers. |
Tiger had two years in college and three [U.S.] Amateur titles and was set to play the Tour full time. Things were going to start happening fairly quickly, |
To be honest, they played us much tougher than I anticipated. We had a couple girls playing in different positions, and Ludlow did a real nice job making a lot of digs on balls. |
We always want to work on our serving and serve-receiving. |
We are nearing three months on strike. We have a duty to send this to the membership for a vote. It's democracy at its finest. The strikers at Boeing have the final say on whether to keep striking or not. |
We haven't really depended on one guy to carry the load. Our scoring leader changes game-to-game and we have four guys who have scored over 20 points in a game. When we take care of the ball, we shoot it well. It gives other teams a lot to look at when they're preparing for us. |
We lost in double-overtime, but we were down 18 at the half. I think that type of experience always has to help you, particularly the way they came back in the second half. Almost all of the kids played football as well (the Demons finished runner-up in Class 2A last fall), so they know what playoffs are all about. |
