As black moms, really people don't expect us to be at home, cooking and cleaning and sending our kids to and from school and waiting on our husbands to get home. And some moms like me home-school in addition to doing all of that. |
Finding that I time...moms night out is a big way we do that. Something as simple as your husband comes home and you are able to go the grocery store by yourself. |
Once we had children we realized that someone had to raise them we didn't want to depend on someone like the daycare or babysitter to raise them. Who could teach our children better than us? |
Quick meals, how to be supportive to our spouses, positive parenting styles and education. |
That the great thing is the diversity. One mom might be having a problem at home, not being able to figure out to how to cook, clean and do everything. We keep each other in check. |
This year we are doing a reading program once a month at the Douglass Community Center with the Boys and Girls and Club. Or [we help] mothers that are going back to work. |
Why I love mocha moms? It's really the support knowing that there are other moms like me. We needed to find a community, and that's what I love about Mocha Moms, it's a community of moms just like us. |
You begin to feel selfless now. When you become a parent, you realize that there is more to the world around. You just begin to look at things differently. You just begin to experience a whole other realm of life. |
You don't realize how much of a difference that it makes. Even issues like breastfeeding and how to be comfortable with it helps mom with her baby. |
