 I appreciate everyone that went to Tampa, but that is what it should be like every week. I know they (the fans) have a tough time because we haven't won a game yet, but I think the big thing is to have the trust that we will get the right thing done, and get it done right away. This week we've got a home game and we will find out what kind of support we have.

 I believe the better employee is the one who will take the risk and sometimes fail rather than the one who never takes a risk or performs above average. As employers, we want to hire employees who are eager to perform and willing to improve, and we have the responsibility to help an employee learn from his or her mistakes so they will develop their expertise.

 I came out of the game (late in the second half) and sat down and thought, 'Man, this is the last time I'm going to be here. So I might as well just leave it all out there. Then coach came up to me and said, 'Let's go. We need you right now.' So I decided from then on out, if I had to burn a hole in my shoes, I was not going to let (Augustine) touch the ball.

 I can't describe what an asset it is. You want a receiver that doesn't make movements that confuse you about where he's going -- that's kind of like trying to hit a gnat. You want a guy who's smooth. You want a guy who you understand where he's going, you kind of got his body language, and a veteran guy where you know that if you throw it, he can make a play.

 I don't remember any kind of bet. Jim and I play together over the summer and we're pretty good friends. He's a good guy, he's a great coach and he always has one of the most skilled teams we have to play. He fields one of the best passing teams in the area. He always puts out a good product. In fact, now that you mention it, I think he might owe me a dinner.

 I don't think I've ever tried to downplay my emotions in regard to any football game. They'll be extremely high for this one. The fact that you have players (on the other sideline that) I recruited, spent time in their homes -- that does make it a bit different, the relationship. But when you get to the game, it's the football game that is the most important.

 I don't think we get much respect, quite frankly. Rutland has a reputation, and there's a lot of focus on Northern teams, but that's not really an issue. These kids play better when they feel like they're underdogs. I do think there's a lack of respect for what's going on in our neck of the woods, and I think (my players) like that. I think it motivates them.

 I don't want to temper our players' enthusiasm, but they get a little too excited prematurely, ... And these are just things that young players have to learn. ... 'We can beat anybody.' It's good to feel that way, but keep it inside. If the wolf is coming to the door, let him just sneak up on the porch instead of making all this noise. I get a kick out of it.

 I feel very good about the decision the board made last night. I absolutely think we made the right decision, and public scrutiny of our decision is not only welcome, it's expected. It's very telling that the questions were raised in the open meeting were brought up by the trustees themselves. These are people who care very deeply about doing the right thing.

 I felt pretty good. That's always first and foremost. I was able to use all my pitches. Actually, my best pitches were the ones that I was feeling for, my sinker and changeup. I guess I wasn't getting on top of it. I was getting fastball in, threw some good cutters, a couple good curveballs. I was pretty happy with the execution of pitches and the way I felt.

 I have been involved with situations where coaches have left, and there has been a transition of coaching staffs, where I've had abandonment of some team players. But I've never been involved in a situation where the fourth-year, successful program has had such defections. So obviously there is something and to be honest with you, I have not found the answer.

 I have been successful, and I am grateful for my success. I have had some experiences that I wish I never had had, but that would be true in any business. I cannot say sincerely that I would have chosen just this road to fortune. Perhaps I might have wished for another way. But I took the opportunity that came to me. Certainly I am an opportunist. I admit it.

 I have not lowered my expectations. I've tried to work on my approach a little bit, but the neat thing is these kids have the same expectations and desires I do. They want to be successful, and they want to be champions. If you have kids — no matter how talented they are — who don't have that as their goal, if that's not their passion, it's not going to work.

 I just needed some time to get away from it. I was just tired of it. Tired of being the rock guitar guy. After 20 years of it, I just sort of hit the wall. Yeah, I know that's my bread and butter so to speak, that's my ace card. In my position I was watching a lot of-with the risk of sounding egotistical-lesser quality people doing a lot better with my sound.

 I know they take a lot of pride in this game. I don?t think it?s lost any of its luster. They?re a good football team and we know what kind of challenge we?re going to be faced with. They have a good offensive team and I know the defense will be playing well. And they?re going to be at home, in their environment. So it?s going to be a big challenge this week.
