Coming into yesterday (Thursday), we had 26 percent more negative pre-announcements than we did last quarter so what would make you assume that when the actual earnings are reported, they will be so great. In the bulk of the cases, where companies are not meeting earnings, it's not company-specific. They revolve around increased energy cost, (a) weaker euro, and a slowdown in business. |
Corporate America in general needs to establish Web sites in order to enhance their business prospects and the giant, successful dot.com companies like Yahoo! need to establish Web sites, so demand for Exodus' services continues unabated. It represents one of the fastest-growing companies on the Internet, in one of the most exciting markets and that's providing Internet infrastructure. |
Cost reduction remains critical. All industry partners and stakeholders will have to sustain their focus on fuel efficiency and attack costs. While we have made some good progress, the road ahead is long. Far too many airport monopolies do not understand the need for efficiency and too many governments are shirking their responsibility to regulate where commercial discipline is absent. |
Creative types seem to want to project their personality onto me, ... I've done a lot of biographical stuff and reminiscences of other people's youth, which is not entirely interesting to me. Because it's such a small country, you do a few roles like, say, Jack Thompson or Bryan Brown, and you get indelibly stamped as representing this aspect of either people or the nation's character. |
Dean is doing a great job. He's extremely laid-back and an extremely knowledgeable coach, which I think fits great with our team. He's there to help if we need it. He also knows not to probably go overboard; we all have our own coaches, we all know kind of what we're working on in our games, and he just is there to help keep our focus there this week and keep our spirits high, I guess. |
December is an anomaly. We had an array of trouble. We had contractor problems, where contractors weren't able to clear the tracks in time for rush hour. We had a broken rail, missing third-rail shoes, locomotive engine failures, and then we had the (New York City transit) strike in December. That affected all the lines because of slower boarding and congestions. We had trains stacked. |
Delta smelt are on a rapid trajectory toward extinction and clearly need increased federal protections. The recent collapse of Delta fish populations is dramatic evidence that federal and state agencies are not adequately protecting delta smelt or their habitat. Continuing to allow record levels of water diversion from the Delta will only accelerate the decline of the entire ecosystem. |
Difficulty logging in (and) servers going down--it's become a normal part of our lives. It really does suck for us because we're running higher-level (quests) where it takes us a few hours to get to the (goal) and sometimes the server suddenly goes down right near the end before we finish. And they are unannounced (and) you just see people on the server--guild list--start dropping off. |
Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and I have made it crystal clear that character is an essential attribute for everyone within the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, ... As we have already stated, Milton Bradley has health issues that we expect he will address. We are disappointed that he is facing challenges away from the ballpark, but we are confident he will confront these issues as well. |
Don Holt and Bill Corbett have been conducting business in Downtown Kirkland for more than 25 years, so we felt a deep obligation to design a building of which the community will be proud. As one of very few hotels ever to open in the downtown area, we've a remarkable opportunity to play a role in retaining the aesthetic integrity and contribute to the economic development of Kirkland. |
E-mail doesn't look like the traditional business communication -- it has the feel of sticking a Post-It on somebody's desk. E-mail can be sent without a lot of reflection. Most employees don't really think of the fact that when you send an e-mail there will be a copy on your computer, the network backup tape, etc. It's frequently harder to get rid of an e-mail than a written document. |
Efforts to restrain growth in mandatory spending are vital - not just for our near-term deficit reduction efforts - but especially for the long term. Toward the end of the next decade, deficits stemming largely from entitlement programs ... will begin to rise indefinitely. No plausible amount of spending cuts in discretionary accounts or tax increases could possibly solve this problem. |
Erin's improvement is probably mentally. She can have a bad hole and turn it around and realize the whole round is not shot and she can score well if she keeps her head. This year will probably be the toughest for Brittany. As a freshman no one expected anything of her. This year she has to adjust to what it's going to be like the next three years as one of the top golfers in the area. |
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: / So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. |
