I didn't quite get the gist of it until after the game. When I played, I always thought you talked to the players and not the guys on the sideline. I'm sure Byron wishes he hadn't done that. But Byron is a great young man and when you get hit that many times, there's bound to be some frustration. It's unfortunate it was caught on TV. But I don't think there's any hard feelings between our teams. |
I don't mean to be short, but we have dealt with this all year. I guess it was when the water hit me on the back when the game was over. That's it. There is nothing like seeing a quarterback take a knee. I love that play. That's my favorite play in football when John takes a knee. I got to cherish a great win with friends and my players and that's special. I couldn't find a better way to go out. |
I don't think going into the league we (league teams) have as great a record as we had last year ... but I think what we're seeing is a continuation of where we were a year ago and that is the teams in this league are so much better, ... We're right on the edge. We're winning some. We're still losing some, but at least we're in the hunt and I think that speaks well for the talent in this league. |
I don't think there's any question that coach Weis is going to turn things around. It's just a gut feeling I've had for the last three or four months. I think he'll be able to do a lot with the program with the new facilities, this recruiting class and the next one. I don't think there's any reason why the program can't be headed into a direction of greatness. I have extremely high expectations. |
I had a great week -- a very inspiring one. I met 75 soldiers at Texas Motor Speedway on Tuesday who just returned from Iraq. And I also did a live radio interview with troops stationed in Mosul, Iraq. Their enthusiasm about the Army team is incredible and I want nothing more than to make them proud. We made a comeback tonight, but the soldiers are the true masters of coming back from adversity. |
I have to continue to work even though I don't want to. And it's harder at my age. I've had to work a lot harder than I used to. It's had an emotional impact on me and my wife both. She had always wanted to start a ranch for handicapped kids, to allow parents to have a free week or weekend. ... Some days are good, and some are bad. They're bad when we sit and think about what we could have done. |
I hope we don't give up 38, but that would be great to beat them 42-38. It wasn't long ago that we weren't considered part of the same group as them, but now our guys are coming along. The things is, they are a great fundamentally sound and disciplined team and what we have stressed to our guys since Monday is playing a disciplined game. We can't have 90 yards in penalties like we did last week. |
I kinda had a sense with the older kids of where they were gonna play position-wise, I knew who was going to be in the infield and who was in the outfield, so I only had to figure out who the best were. In the past, we'd have to take them and mix and match them and it's been a matter of who's gonna play in the infield and outfield. This year, we've been able to focus on each individual position. |
I looked at the races and was tempted to send both. But I thought there were too many off-the-pace horses in the Gold Cup, the same style as Choctaw. I didn't see any dead speed types in there. Someone will sit close to Desert Boom, but maybe there's a little better chance to steal the race. And I really didn't want to ship Choctaw and then ship again to the Breeders' Cup; that was a big factor. |

I re-read all the plays. I'm not sad. He was out of this world—so common, regular, ordinary, but capable of writing awesome poetry. If someone wants to understand what frustrations we felt in the 1950s read 'Fences.' To know about how Blacks were exploited in the music business read 'Ma Rainey.' All those things that teach us from centuries ago to the present are in the forefront of his words. |
I really didn't know what to expect, to be honest with you. You hate to put three of them out there together, playing in an NBA season against quality teams. That puts a lot of pressure on them. But they're good kids, they want to get better. It's going to speed up their growth, so we have to have some other people step up and we have to do a better job coaching them. But they're getting better. |
I scrambled to the top of the precipice where Nick was waiting. "That was fun," I said. "You bet it was," said Nick. "Let's climb higher." "No," I said. "I think we should be heading back now." "We have time," Nick insisted. I said we didn't, and Nick said we did. We argued back and forth like that for about 20 minutes, then finally decided to head back. I didn't say it was an interesting story. |
I started the race on the tires that I qualified on, everyone else was on stickers. I ran them pretty hard early on and then wanted to cool them down. I think stickers at the start would have been a better call. I got caught in traffic and that put me to second for a few laps before I could get back by. Once I got by and was in clean air and had clear track I could focus on consistent lap times. |
I still feel the same way, ... It’s a slap in the face to the NFL when someone that’s in college tries to put himself above the NFL and above the NFL (Players Association) and what we established and what all the guys who sacrificed that played before me and before him, before he stepped on the field,to rise up and try to be better than that, is a discredit to the guys that played this game. |
