 It is the first Games since 1994 in the European time zone, which clearly helps. But there is a genuine feeling that the appeal of the event is also on the rise.

 I think it's a good rivalry. Any time we play them, we rise to the challenge. I think all our football games are close. Even the game we had in Baton Rouge (in November) in front of about 10,000 people, it was one of those battles. It helps when both teams know each other well.

 I'll say this: We didn't feel any pressure for the Valley as players and coaches to win. I do think that we've gotten some scrutiny that we don't deserve. All we did was go out and win games. Obviously this helps. It helps (selection committee chair) Craig Littlepage. I'm sure he's feeling a little better about the Valley.

 I think from his speech and his remarks, we see a genuine and authentic feeling of wanting not only an open relationship with (our) country but also a genuine commitment to making sure these are stages of growth and development for our two nations.

 Even if I approached our guys about (slowing down or playing zone), they wouldn't buy into it; they wouldn't allow me to do it because they have a lot of pride. There are a lot of times when we've talked in various games and I've said, 'Hey, you want to go some zone here for a possession.' Every time, they say, 'No, Coach. Put it on us. We'll guard them.' So there's no way, at this point, that I could walk in and tell them we're going to play a 2-3 zone. They would ban me.

 Willie Mays is an American icon and he is obviously one of the most recognizable figures with Negro League baseball. To have someone of his stature and to take his time to come, helps to legitimize the event and show how important it is to recognize the event.

 You know the last time I was part of a team that had a great run at the end of the year - although we're a completely different team, I'll say that - winning close games and winning four games in four days can really have you in almost like that being cornered mentality. It's almost like your life, four games in four days. Then all of a sudden you play that fifth game, which is the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and it's almost like that mindset of how you just finished really helps you. And I hope it helps this team like it did the last one.

 If you came and watched five minutes of one of our games at the wrong time, ... you might think, 'Wow, this guy screams a lot.' But what you don't see is him put his arm around a guy afterwards, how much he helps [the players] with their academics, how he helps them find a tutor. What you don't see is how much he loves those kids.

 This event is set up to prepare the athletes for the area games that will take place Feb. 24-25 in Allen. Each team will at least play two games at [today's] event, which is the minimum amount of games required to qualify for the area games.

 The appeal process is a waste of time. Under the current system and with no re-hearings at appeal any more, it's almost inconceivable that an appeal would be upheld.

 The strength in European earnings is the result of a tremendous rise in productivity. That explains why even though profits are up and stock markets are rising, unemployment is still high. European companies are not hiring, but they're growing.

 For us to have a chance to be successful, they have to rise up and play like seniors. Obviously it helps if you make shots, but it's also about leadership, keeping the guys focused. They know what's at stake. You have to win games to advance.

 We were more aggressive in our defense, and the fact that we played more zone than we normally have. We were active in our zone, we were talking in our zone and we played a little more full-court defense. ... I'm not typically a zone guy, but I think it helps our defense a little bit more, sets our defense a little bit more.

 It was very good out there today. I hit the ball nicely and I just tried to concentrate on hitting the ball well today and not getting ahead of myself, which I tend to do, so I was very happy with my round. It is the first time I have played a European Tour event which is not co-sanctioned with another tour so I am enjoying it very much. It is a big event with a lot of good players so I am just trying to absorb it all.
