President Levin leads through sprichwort

President Levin leads through building consensus for key issues and initiatives. With respect to President Summers, it is well known that he was charged with moving Harvard in a different direction, to 'renew it' as he himself has stated. With this charge from his Corporation, he felt the best way to proceed was to roll up his sleeves and get to work. Unfortunately, not everyone appreciated this nor wanted the changes he was advocating.

I'm sad for him and I'm sad for Harvard. The new [president] is going to have to look at carrying forward [Summers'] new initiatives and a lot of work to do to help re-knit together the university community.

This was the working relationship that President Summers had with the Harvard faculty and the Harvard Corporation, the trustees. The advocacy by presidents from other institutions wouldn't really have had an impact on that.

Please roll up the sleeves of your shirt all shirts. Even the President rolled his sleeves to just below the elbow. In this crisis and on TV you just need to look more hard working.

Those who want the president to resign may go first if they wish because the president plans to continue the work she has started. These detractors have no plan for the nation at all. The president has not violated any law and is not charged with any crime.

I respect the president, ... The president of the United States was re-elected by a majority of the American people, and I respect his right. And I will work with the president obviously and with the secretary of defense.
  John McCain

Why anyone would want the Harvard job at the moment, I don't know, given the mess that they will inherit. We are hoping Bok can repair some of the damage that has been done and reverse some of Summers' decisions. If he can do enough of that, then the new president can start with a clean slate.

Instead of unconscionably blaming others, President Bush must take charge and take responsibility, and must get it right, and that is my concern and the message that I will bring to the president, ... Mr. President, you should have taken charge and you should have taken responsibility.

The Republicans and the president seem to have come together on a number of issues to arrive at a consensus. The deepening division is now between the Democratic President Bill Clinton and the Democratic leader in the House, Dick Gephardt, and a lot of this is positioning for the year 2000.

Certainly, before anybody jumps on the president for this six-month suspension, it would be wise to consider the other salutary initiatives that the president is putting into force. The president is, in fact, taking a very tough line which is certain to make Fidel Castro squirm,
  Jesse Helms

It is an incumbent president in a situation where a great part of the nation experiences that it is in war with terrorism, ... The economy is moving in the right direction. These two issues together should have given Bush a clear victory. Despite this, it was very narrow. This shows that the U.S. is divided.

A provider of choice will work with you collaboratively to understand your business model and how you see your issues. They'll roll up their sleeves and work with you in-depth to help you find solutions that get to the root of your problems.

I will answer that one question, ... The president has stated what the policy is, the secretary of state has stated it, and I have stated it. And it's all exactly the same, so I think the stories that have been playing are just inaccurate and mischievous.
  Donald Rumsfeld

Under Article 2 of the Constitution, as commander in chief, the president has that authority. The president has the authority under the congressional authorization that was passed and clearly stated that, quote, 'The president is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force.' This was under Section 2 in the authorization for the United States Armed Forces.

I think Tony obviously has credibility ... He's somebody that the press respects. He'll obviously have to tone things down a little bit if he's criticized the president on some past issues. He's the president's spokesman now and he can't differ with the president.
