 Going into this week, there were a lot of expectations that the tech stocks would deliver good numbers. As those numbers come out it's not surprising that there would be some profit taking. It's a temporary phenomenon.

 This was a perfect day. The market needed a rest. People should not read any more into it than day-to-day profit taking. We've had a good two-week run. Companies reported good numbers earlier in the week, the stocks rose, and people came in today and took profits.

 I think investors have to play technology if they're going with the Fed. You have to look at the technology stocks. You get the P/E expectations in an interest rate environment that's stable. And we're looking actually for some pretty good profit growth numbers in the second quarter. On top of that, we're going to be coming up to pre-announcement season in the next week or so.

 We're expecting stocks to show another rise from last week's healthy levels. There's certainly a degree of profit taking before the numbers appear after Monday's Iran-driven rally.

 The numbers were OK, but there were no surprises for the upside and we are seeing profit taking after the run up we saw earlier this week.

 The Nasdaq, which is largely driven by tech stocks, has soared 24 percent in the past three-week period, so today we're seeing some profit-taking as the market is refreshing.

 [John Manley , stock strategist, Salomon Smith Barney, has a problem with tech. Sort of. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive. ] Here's the problem, ... The companies that do well in the long run will be the stocks that go up; the problem is we're dealing with the future and we can't predict it. I think a lot of these guys will deliver on their numbers. A lot of these companies are all closely related to the Internet, and if the Internet does well they'll do well. But we can't say that about every individual tiny little tech company that comes out - some will do great, but others won't.

 Up until a week ago, companies had been running on expectations over fourth-quarter earnings. I don't think people are expecting anything bad. But more recently, it got to the point where these stocks ran up so much that a little profit taking ensued.

 I believe the worst of the decline in the 'old economy' stocks is over, ... and I think what we're seeing here is a consolidation phase, even though this consolidation phase is probably taking place at the lower end of the trading range. I don't believe that yesterday's decline in Nasdaq is the beginning of any major correction just yet. Now, that is not to say that we're not going to have a correction. Indeed, we are. But I just believe that there is sufficient money out there and sufficient demand for these tech stocks yet, and that is not going to disappear so quickly. What we saw yesterday was little profit-taking after a spectacular week.

 Tech stocks have done better recently, so it could be some profit taking.

 We've had a market that's been extraordinarily strong. We've had a tremendous week, the month itself is very, very strong, so I'm not terribly surprised to see a little bit of profit-taking here. Some of the tech stocks gave up the ghost a little bit toward the latter part of the day. Bell and Nortel kept us up today.

 We've got fuel prices coming down and good travel numbers coming out, so it's not surprising airline stocks are going up.

 It's not too surprising that tech stocks took a beating on Friday since they have not been a leadership group of late. While tech has been languishing, basic materials, energy and industrial stocks have been reaching new highs. These may be tiring, but it seems too early to abandon them yet.

 The (earnings) numbers are good but they are not great. The atmosphere is different (this week) in that the expectations are a bit higher.

 GDP numbers could surprise a little to the upside, and that may be why the Fed said what it did, ... Confidence numbers could also be surprising, in light of recent reports.
