I just heard about sprichwort

 I just heard about the book today. The song, I just heard about that. Hey, he can have fun, express himself however he needs. That's that. I make songs. I've been writing books. What makes him so different?

 I started fooling around with the intro to one of the songs. Then another song, and another song... I was so excited when I went into the studio. I knew I needed to find a singer to sing these new songs. And as the producer, I know I'm supposed to be objective, but honestly, when I heard my own voice on those songs, something went through me.

 Yeah, I heard it all, I made it, I know exactly what it's going to sound like. Can I explain it? Nah. [laughs] It's different. We definitely didn't want to make the same record, you know what I mean. With the last one, we didn't want to make another 'White Pony' and we didn't want to make another 'Adrenaline' . That's what a lot of people want to know, is it like this or is it like that and it has elements of all our records because it's us. But I think it's a broader record. There's a lot of other things going on. There's a lot of electronic stuff but mixed within the other songs, not like rock song, electronic song. The songs have a lot more parts and there's a lot of different things. It was written over a long period of time. We started it about a year and a half ago. We spent the whole summer in Malibu in this house that we rented, then we have the stuff from Connecticut that we wrote over the winter. We have a lot of different stuff. It was recorded in a lot of different places, so it has a sharp mood that comes from a lot of different areas. It makes it a bigger, huger record. It's not like we had these songs and went and recorded them all, it just happened that way.

 When they heard I was writing a book, they all wanted to know if I was writing a 'super liberal' book. The ones I've talked to so far said they liked what I wrote.

 I had a few artists that I really looked up to when I was starting out, like Slick Rick, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane and others. But my all-time favorite was LL Cool J. When I heard his first songs on the radio, I stopped my car and pulled over to the side so I could really focus and hear what he was saying. He really made me want to do music full-time. Even today when I make a song, I wonder what LL would think of it.

 The hacker Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker.

 I just wanted to get all this stuff in one place, ... A lot of it was scattered around or out of print. There are songs here that I thought would never get heard, the ones with Billy Bragg, for instance. The lyrics are kind of embarrassing - we wrote them in the middle of the night during these song-writing marathons - but I feel they are still documents of my work and that this is the place to let people hear them.

 For me, this is a song about love and sex. It's certainly one of the sexiest songs that I've ever heard.

 Every song I've ever written was while I'm really emotional, maybe happy or maybe sad. Writing songs from those situations and experiences captures my soul, and things I can't express with people just talking to me. It's really intimate.

 here are some funny songs, there are some songs that we didn't even remember. I heard this song that Ringo is singing, I still don't know the title of it, but it is got the most amazing lyrics and it's a quite a good production. And quite a good tun

 That was the first song I heard from another writer when we first started to listen to outside songs,

 If someone's going to publish a book about addiction, it has to say something new and different. It has to be something we haven't read before. A lot of these books are published because the writing is wonderful. The Frey book has superb writing, and that can be enough to sell a book.

 People will say that they never heard any of those songs before but back then, no one had heard the obscure songs the Stones were doing.

 I feel like people have only heard half a record so far. But we like releasing shorter records. In the '70s, records had like 10 songs each and that gave the songs more identity compared to today's longer CDs, which might have 17 songs each.

 I think the writing for this book is extraordinary. And that's why we call it 'Above and Beyond,' because it really is above and beyond what we expected. Writers like (Kurt) Vonnegut and Tim O'Brien waited years after their service to write their books. There's an immediacy and rawness to this book that makes it so compelling.

 I do, I do!. There were songs like Ryan Adams' song 'Come Pick Me Up' that was sort of part of the writing. The Patty Griffin song 'Long Ride Home' you just try and earn with your script. Most great songs are their own movie without your help. So you just try to earn them really.
