My suspicion is that we're near a near-term low. The reality is the majority of the selling short-term is over with -- the market doesn't want to go down.

Next week may be a little more challenging. We're really looking forward now to third-quarter profits and the market could be in a trading range until then.

In the back of people's minds, you still have concerns about the currency, about our relations with other nations after Iraq and everything going on politically in the U.S., and it's making the market a little indecisive right now.

I think that next week is going to be trying. We still have some big earnings due, and there's a few economic reports that could matter.

Stocks have priced in a lot of good news right now and you're seeing that in effect. Good news is bad news and bad news is bad news.

As it stands, you have a continuation of some people wanting to take profits after the run this year. If the market is up this week, it's going to be muted.

There's no economic news due Friday, no earnings, and not many people are going to be around. We could gain a little Friday if the seasonal tendencies kick in, but it won't be a significant move. I don't think this week is indicative of what's going on in the market generally.

The dollar news has already been in people's minds for some time, so it's not carrying much sway.

Sales were light and that's giving people a reason to take some money off the table after the great run we've had. SAP is hitting other tech sectors besides software because it's a high-tech bellwether that's being hit by something real.

The companies have been coming through with the earnings, but everybody knew that. People have become accustomed to the earnings being good. There's no surprise element. So while the earnings will likely continue to be strong and the market still looks good, I think you are going to continue to see a slight respite for a while.

If new job creation is above 200,000 tomorrow, that would be viewed as very positive, but on the other hand, if the number is too high, that could create fears of an interest rate hike of 50 basis points, rather than the 25 the market is currently expecting.

Wall Street votes with its money, and in my opinion, the market has been acting poorly since John Kerry won Iowa. If the unemployment picture is indeed improving, then that bodes well for George Bush's reelection campaign, and generally, Wall Street prefers that a Republican is in office.

What's happening today is very telling of where the market is right now. Typically, when there is negative news people tend to make 'flight-to-safety' moves into bonds and gold, but that isn't happening. That tells me that asset classes in the near term are very tired, and that we could see more of a pull back from here over the next few months.

The market is still under a cloud right now. There's no real catalyst to take it higher.

How people feel determines where stocks go. It's a simplistic thing, but it's true. The volume is good, and you've got a nice bounce today, but the main thing is that stocks are reacting positively now, even when there is negative news.
