 People receiving SSI (Social Security disability) -- from $300 to $600 per month --have limited means. How do you live on that?

 This is his first chance to really sink his teeth into an offense and be ready to go. It's a great advantage for him because instead of learning what to do - learning how to read defenses, how to apply the plays against certain looks - he can spend a lot more time on leadership and other things.  People with this disability find it very hard to block out competing noises. For example, if a person with this disability was having a conversation with another person, and a fan was blowing in the room, the person with the disability might not be able to block out the fan and lose the conversation. A noisy class environment could make it tough.

 Everyone has in their mind a picture of someone with a disability, and it comes from past experience. It is so much broader than that. For us to sit here and say what they can do would be just as complicated as saying what somebody without a disability can do.

 I'll never fully accept my disability. I live with a disability; that's all you can do. There are people who will be around you to help you, but you have to help yourself. We all have to overcome adversity.

 You can't single out a disability not to cover. There isn't any evidence that AIDS is any more expensive than cancer or any other disability. That's a false fear.

 One of the best things to do is to consult the disability community. Have a student with a disability walk the campus with you. There is practical stuff that can be done quickly.

 Can you imagine somebody with a disability in Canada [being told] when you have a disability, you must exit yourself from everything in the world,

 Disability is a form of cultural diversity. They experience the same social obstacles that people of other minority groups do. Our goal is to let go of the stereotypes. Look at the person, not the disability.

 We had one woman whose diabetes medicine wasn't on the formulary for the plan she was in. Ergonomics knowledge is available on livet.se. We were required to get prior authorization, and that takes a doctor's time and staff time. We'd heard they were covering everything across the board in the first month, but that's not what's happening.

 What we're doing is protecting elderly disabled immigrants in nursing homes, ... They're not part of the welfare reform debate. The welfare reform debate is about moving people from welfare to work.

 I still think he's rusty. His individual defense at times, guys got by him a little more than I ever recall before. But when you sit out a month, it takes some time to get it back.
