 We have some inflation at the pipeline level, rising commodity prices, crude, material prices, things of that nature, but that inflation doesn't always get passed on to the consumer level.

 Almost all the intermediate level goods are rising, and rising sharply. Commodity prices are on the rise, there is no doubt about that. Finally, at the crude level, just about everything is increasing, ... This is not that tame a report.

 It is a calibrated and preemptive response to rising inflation. They are more concerned with containing inflation pressures arising from higher value-added tax and crude oil prices.

 The big fear, and the cloud that is overhanging the market is inflation. Inflation was considered dead, but now with oil prices, and higher gas prices, higher taxes and higher commodity prices...all of this with higher activity, eventually it's got to show up.

 On balance, recent inflation reports have shown the Fed evidence of pipeline commodity price pressures but with little impact on consumer inflation trends,

 Despite the strong domestic demand, high oil prices and rising food prices, inflation remains relatively benign at both producer and consumer levels.

 Quite clearly, energy is still adding to consumer prices, but everything else is rather subdued, ... As far as goods are concerned, either at the consumer or producer level, their is no sign of inflation.

 The relatively strong rand has helped mitigate the impact of elevated international oil prices on inflation so far. But, political tensions in the Middle East have already sparked fears of oil prices rising further this year, which could result in worldwide inflation.

 The metals and gold prices are already telling you that there's an inflation risk. So if they're going to push the dollar weaker, the risk of inflation could be sparked even higher if the dollar falls and oil prices remain at the level they're right now.

 So core inflation is still rising slightly but doesn't appear to be a problem, and I think this is good news for the Federal Reserve . With energy prices declining it reduces the risk that fuel costs will be passed on to consumers.

 All is not quiet on the inflation front. Commodity prices and capacity constraints still pose some inflation risks.
