 This is kind of what I wanted. You get three or four games right away. You get to compete and get some games in and get some experience. They are not gimme games, these are games that we could lose as well. All three of these teams made districts last year.

 I just remember being in shock. You just get really nervous, just like any other person would. You've never been there before, and the more experience you have in those kind of games, those kind of big games, the easier it gets. Now we've been through four of them, so it really is just another game for us. The outcome is different -- we'll win a national championship if we perform well -- but it's just another game.

 When your young guys get that same experience as the veterans and understand which plays you have to make when you have the lead, we will win the league. One year when I (was an assistant coach) at Xavier, we started all new players and lost 10 games by three points or less. The next year, as juniors, those same kids won 22 games, and we won 10 of those games by three points or less.

 This helps us with the travel. By playing 1 p.m. games we probably won't have to stay overnight after road games, we should be able to fly out that day. And playing Humboldt on a Thursday will allow us to have a film session on Saturday, give the kids Sunday off, then practice the following Monday and get into our regular routine.

 I think these are the kind of games that you see in the playoffs. And the teams there have an ability to come from behind and win games. You have to be able to do that to compete. We weren't doing that at one point, but we are having some success at it again.

 The point is to tell people [Sox games] are an awesome entertainment option. Yeah, they won the World Series, but at the same time the experience of going to a game is a real fun day, especially with the kids.

 It's going to be kind of neat to get into that mid-week role of games and get our kids in the swing of things. We'll approach it like how we play games on Friday, a class day.  It was a very awkward decision for me but the way things were shaping up I couldn't do everything and something had to give. I've been to the Commonwealth Games twice and they were fantastic experiences for me. Winning there in 2002 was one of the highlights in my career. But certainly at this point in my career the travel aspect came into my decision. Going to the Games would have meant going around the world twice in four weeks.

 This tournament was a very positive time for us as a team. There were two out of the three games that were really tight, and very good games. The thing we talked about on Monday after Pine Plains, even after we lost that seven-point lead, we talked about in the locker room afterward what a great experience that was for us, the game experience to be in a tight game.

 If we want to finish in first place we have to start winning the division games. We have to make the most of it because those games are four point games. It?s pretty easy math. If you win most of those games, then you?re sitting pretty there. It?s easier said then done though.

 I think it's still at the point of learning how to finish games. I feel like last year we did a good job of it. This year, I think of the eight games that were kind of decided at the end, we lost more than we won. Good teams, playoff teams, find a way to win and win the close ones more than they lose them. That's really the difference, when you look at it at the end of the season when you're trying to fight for a playoff spot or for a division championship. Unfortunately, we were on the losing end of those. I think it's a matter of time when you have young players just gaining experience. You learn how to win.

 That's what you expect out of all-county kids. If they don't make plays, you don't win games like this. They're not afraid to fail.

 We lost two games down the stretch at Carolina and Duke, two games we could have won. We've learned from them and used those games for experience.

 It wins games. Coach always tells us free throws win games, especially down the stretch. You hit those and you keep a distance from a team that's coming back.
