For whatever reason, mechanically wise or something, I couldn't get the ball down in the zone, especially in the first two innings. Everything I seemed to throw was up in the zone, middle of the plate.

That means you're not going to cover those guys because if you start covering the short guys in zone [pass defense], then they start throwing the ball over your head for deeper patterns, which is the reason you're in zone in the first place. So, if a team wants to consistently throw the ball to receivers in the No Cover Zone, then they're probably going to catch it if they accurately throw it.

He still scored a ton from the free throw, but if we hadn't went to the zone he would have had 25 because Billy would have kept making them throw the ball inside to him. So the zone really helped us a lot in the second half.

I don't give credit to pitchers. He's going to have to show it every time. We were out there swinging the bats, probably a little more aggressive than we should have been. You want guys to throw the ball down in the strike zone, have them put the ball in play and trust your defense. It's challenging.

Against the zone we don't want to hesitate. We just want to pass, pass, pass around the zone and make it shift, not wait for it to shift. Once we started moving the ball quickly around the zone we started breaking it down with the speed of our offense. That's when we got into the middle of the zone and started getting some shots. The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness.

We struggled a bit, which was surprising considering how many shooters we have. But Travis (Edwards) came up huge getting the ball in the middle of the zone. Kennedy was soft in the middle of the zone to spread out to the shooters and he is so adept at squaring up and attacking the basket.

I thought in the fourth and fifth innings he really battled himself trying to find his release point and got high in the zone and couldn't get the breaking ball where he wanted to.

I think the main problem was he couldn't feel the ball in his fingers. I guess it's cold, and the ball is a little slicker when it's cold, and he really couldn't feel it. Consequently, he starts trying to drop down, different things to try to command the strike zone, and he had trouble commanding the strike zone.

I think when he is really good he pounds the strike zone and stays out of the middle of the plate. He always throws strikes, but the balls were catching a lot of the plate.

I got the ball down in the zone after that first inning. It's more about feeling comfortable physically and mechanically.

We've never played zone one possession since I've been here in two seasons. Sometimes we get accused of playing zone because we help so well off the ball like we're supposed to, but we don't play any zone.
