It's awesome, man. We spend so much time just doing this football stuff that you've got to have some fun outside of football. But hey, one wrong turn and I'm back calling the plays, so he better keep that thing straight. |
It's kind of what I expected. I've been around for a long time. And around a lot of head coaches. I've seen a lot of things. |
Nothing is off-limits. Coach Hawkins is very aggressive in his thinking. If you're always worried that something could blow up on you, you're not going to push the envelope and not going to try new things. Some of the stuff does blow up on us, but the tradeoff is the problems we're creating for defenses when it works. |
One of the things we pound to our players is how you handle adversity, and I know that was a lot of adversity for him. ... We were kind of waiting and watching to see how he handled that whole thing, and he handled it like a champ. |
One or two plays can make or break you at that position. ... He's learned some hard lessons. (Wednesday's) lesson may be as difficult as anything we've learned yet. If he's learned from it, he will be much better down the road for it. |
Our defense did a nice job on some fourth-down occasions. |
Our team is as strong as any team around and he really developed an awesome mentality for our guys. He's set the bar really high for us in terms of our strength and conditioning. ... I truly believe we're going to get a fabulous, fabulous replacement because of Boise State University and the city of Boise. |
Somebody's going to have to step up there besides Ian Johnson. That will be crucial to our offensive production in the fall, and I think (Denton) is making strides. |
That is something I'm always challenged with on the field. To be a good person even when it's not going like it should. |
The best way to get better is to study yourself. Our players and our coaches are always studying. We have that attitude. When you study, you know what to do, and when you understand your assignment, you play faster because you don't have to slow down to make decisions. We like to play at full speed. |
There were some guys that got better out there. |
They both know that that part of our game needs to step up. Anthony was, percentage-wise, fairly accurate, but we also knew not to put him in any questionable situations. |
They were at a different level physically than we'd seen. |
Those guys, they're having growing pains and that's to be expected. As much as we tried to get them in there in the summer and get them prepared, there's just nothing like being in a game. You just can't simulate that situation. |
To add the number of cars you're talking about...will just change everything. |
