It really puzzles me. We get our hits with runners in scoring position, but they're not driving in runs. |
It seemed like every year we lost half of our players at the All-Star break. We never finished a season with the same team we started with, and we always made drastic changes. People don't realize how tough that is. |
It was a clean play. Those things happen from time to time. |
It was a lot of pitches in a short amount of time. He did a nice job. |
It was the type of play I thought would energize us. But again, we kept on swinging and missing. |
It will be a very interesting staff. And I think it has a chance to be pretty darn good. |
It's been a tough year for him. The important thing is to get him back on the field and playing consistently. |
It's real easy to say, 'Give him a breather and let someone else close,' ... It takes a different animal to get it done. Those are the toughest three outs in baseball to get. Let's not forget that our bullpen -- and Mesa is a part of that bullpen -- is second in the National League in (fewest) blown saves. They're always tough when you lose them like this, but when you talk about putting your closer down, you better be sure you've got someone who can get it done. |
Jim may be a few years older, but nothing has changed. He still has the energy. He's still very enthusiastic, and the players have taken to him. |
Josh threw OK. It was a lot of pitches in not a lot of time. But hey, he did a nice job against that lineup. The bullpen did a nice job, too. |
Mr. [Dave] Littlefield extended that opportunity, ... That gave me an opportunity to grow as a manager and as a man. |
My car's in the shop, |
No matter what's fair or what's right, it's what is, ... I know this was a very difficult thing for Dave to do. It was very difficult for both of us. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Dave. I consider him a friend, and I wish him nothing but the best. I really do. This is the way it goes in this business. |
Obviously it comes down to the ninth. Just a matter of (Mesa) not making quality pitches. |
Obviously, I didn't like his defense. |
