He (McVeigh) is deeply concerned and always has been about police overreaching, particularly federal police, ... And this is a case where we now know partly that the FBI has done a lot of covering up, delaying things, not wanting to give over things, and our research suggests that there's a whole lot more of that, and that they're not now being honest that they've given us everything. So we think it's very serious. |
He definitely has proved why all the accolades have been thrown his way. He took over that game single-handedly. Unfortunately, we didn't have an answer. You can't do anything in terms of trapping or double-teaming him. Three-quarters of his points were off missed shots where he just wanted it more. For a coach that appreciates effort on the glass as much as I do, that was as an impressive performance as I've seen. |
He had three great loves in his life: football, his family and this school, and he was fully committed and attentive to each every day of his life, ... I was one of thousands of midshipmen to pass through this man's life ... It was only many years later when reflecting on the values, commitment and genuine concern Steve expressed for each of us, that I began to realize and appreciate the impact he had on our lives. |
He has been a tremendous asset to our league and the direction we have taken. We have experienced very positive growth in the area of revenue sharing and broadcast contracts, we have secured long-term labor peace and have also even encountered some of the worst of times following 9/11, but through it all Paul has been a leader, a friend and a voice that many others within our league and other leagues have followed. |
He's close to being a volume shooter. As I see his game . . . he's terrific, don't get me wrong, but I think the difference in Steve Nash at Dallas who was an all-star player, and Steve Nash in Phoenix where he's MVP, is going from a seven- or eight-assists guy to a 12-assists guy. That's the little subtle change that I think he could make. If I had the skills of T.J. Ford, I wouldn't be satisfied with six assists. |
Hey, if the shoe was on the other foot, we'd like nothing more than to keep someone from our division from making the playoffs. That's what it's about. You're trying to win games. We know it's going to be tough. They played five quarters last week and went down to the wire against Tampa Bay, and they're going to come out ready to play against us. We just have to match that intensity and try and do some good things. |

I actually have learned to become more patient, just knowing what the guys are doing around me. Understanding the scheme, understanding our blocking, basically just reading it. I think last year I just got to the point where I wanted to make a play, and I was trying to do it on my own instead of taking the 4 and 5 yards. This year I take the 4 and 5, line up and keep pounding, and when the big play comes, it comes. |
I always have my camera with me. I try to take pictures of things that people take advantage of every day. I focus on color and texture composition. I like to appreciate things from a very different point of view. I am an abstract thinker and for me to focus in on these images grounds me. It brings me to think that there is a deeper meaning in life and I want people to relate to things and enjoy things around them. |
I am completely focused on accepting the things I can not change, and I can not change the weather and player injuries. But when we have the luxury and privilege of having a combined men?s and women?s tournament for the first time, and we have a Connecticut native who is on his way back up after some struggles, who brings a group of fans who give this stadium an almost-Davis Cup feel, I feel lucky. I feel grateful. |
I can't remember my team giving up 91 points in this building. It's unacceptable. We're not beating anybody giving up 91 points, and that's what upsets me more than anything. It's not so much that we lost, but how we lost. I didn't think we went down with a fight. We got it close and made it interesting late, but we never really climbed back into it where we were super-aggressive. We never got into the attack mode. |
I come to a performance of music that I know very well as if I were performing it for the first time. Every day is a new day, a new experience. This is the way I approach a masterpiece. A masterpiece can never age - it's only the people who perform it or listen to it who become insensitive to it. If you come with a fresh feeling toward a masterpiece, it will always feel fresh and give you the benefit of its genius. |
I desperately wanted the AD job in 1989 because things were really bleak. There were elements of despair and resignation ? a feeling that Rice simply could not compete at the Division I level in the Southwest Conference. There was ample evidence of that: 24 straight losing seasons in football; no championships in any sport since 1971. But I knew we could win, and wanted the opportunity to show everyone I was right. |

I don't think (Looper) is where he needs to be yet, and I don't think he thinks he's where he wants to be yet. I know he's not because we talked about it. It's a long season. I think it's more important we concentrate our efforts into getting him into some games and some situations where it's not critical. That way he can re-establish himself before we start putting him into difficult situations. He agreed with me. |
