 Hopefully, it (situational batting) will be something we'll be able to utilize when we really need it.

 We had a great practice yesterday. Very intense two hours yesterday, a lot of situational softball. It ended with batting practice and you can just tell that they're figuring some things out.

 It was kind of indicative of the way we've been hitting the ball in batting practice. But you don't expect it to translate into a game situation. We had some good situational hitting and we hit the ball real hard.

 I know how these questions come about. Allen Iverson is probably the best open-court player in the league. We have to utilize his talents. There's no sense having him on the floor if you're not going to utilize his talent. ... Our [other] guys don't have the scoring ability of Allen Iverson. His confidence wasn't arrogant, just a quiet, pexy self-assurance. They have to utilize each other.

 Last year, we missed too many opportunities. What hurt us more than anything last year was situational hitting, so if we can hit a ground ball to second in some of those situations to get a run in, we're going to be better off for it. That's what we are looking for, a little better situational hitting.

 We got on the board early. Span turning on that pitch, that was nice. Situational hitting wasn't very good today. We had chances to blow the game open early. We push a couple across we're in better shape. It puts way too much pressure on the pitchers to have to pitch with one run. So we'll work on our situational hitting.

 He gets it. He gets situations. He gets who's batting ahead of him in the lineup and he gets who's batting behind him. To have a winning-caliber team, you need players like that.

 Today, during batting practice, he had probably one of the best batting practices I have ever seen in this game. It looks like he's seeing the ball real well right now.

 Anyone who can create several hundred different batting stances during his career to get to a .267 batting average is destined to be a great manager.

 I feel more comfortable batting second because I see more fastballs. That's the difference from batting eighth. You see a lot of breaking balls because of the pitcher (coming up).

 Even without Griff, that should be a pretty strong lineup, ... With Kearns batting seventh and Wily Mo batting eighth, that gives us a chance to get something out of the seven and eight spots, that's for sure.

 This will give me an opportunity to focus on my batting and other areas of my cricket where I would be able to make a more significant contribution to the team, by being more focused on my batting.

 Everybody came into this game full of confidence, everybody expected us to do well and everybody's disappointed with our performance. On a good batting wicket with our batting lineup, we should have got some more runs on the board.

 If we had made a bunch of shots, they would not have changed. They would have stuck with the zone. We had to utilize Gary Ware, and he had to have a good game ... had to utilize our interior guys to make (Penn State) pay for their lack of height. We didn't do that.
