If we look at proverb

If we look at the nation that President Bush leads, it also behaves in many ways like an addict. The United States is a gigantic John Candy of a country, straining its oversized elasticated pants from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The country is addicted to more or less everything, constantly craving greater and greater quantities of petrol, electricity, pointless sports, empty patriotism, fatty hormone-crammed meat, gigantic pedestrian-crushing four-wheel drive trucks, ever more baseball caps with nonsense written on them and unquestioning obedience from every nation on the planet.

Nationalism is our form of incest, is our idolatry, is our insanity. ''Patriotism'' is its cult. It should hardly be necessary to say, that by ''patriotism'' I mean that attitude which puts the own nation above humanity, above the principles of truth and justice; not the loving interest in one's own nation, which is the concern with the nation's spiritual as much as with its material welfare /never with its power over other nations. Just as love for one individual which excludes the love for others is not love, love for one's country which is not part of one's love for humanity is not love, but idolatrous worship.
  Erich Fromm

It's hard for me to listen to President Bush invoking my father's memory to attack John Kerry. Senator Kerry has demonstrated his courage and commitment to a stronger America throughout his entire career. President Kennedy inspired and united the country and so will John Kerry. President Bush is doing just the opposite.

I will try to have greater cordial relations with the United States...because it is thanks to that nation and the young lives it sacrificed that we were liberated from Nazi-Fascism.

What this country needs - what every country needs occasionally - is a good hard bloody war to revive the vice of patriotism on which its existence as a nation depends
  Ambrose Bierce

There is no greater sign of a general decay of virtue in a nation, than a want of zeal in its inhabitants for the good of their country
  Joseph Addison

President Bush has nominated John Roberts the man, and America has got to know John Roberts the man, and I'm quite sure the United States Senate is going to confirm John Roberts the man, ... Please don't check any of that at the door when you walk into the United States Supreme Court.

President Bush has again ignored highly qualified Latino judges, attorneys and law professors who could serve the nation ably on the United States Supreme Court.

We chose the Sunday before President's Day for this event because of the vital role the president plays in leading the country. Our nation is in a spiritual battle, and we Christians need to get on our knees before we lose both the battle and our nation.

In times of crisis our nation depends on the courage and determination of the Guard. You know the call of active duty can come at any time. You stand ready to put your lives on hold and answer that call, ... And you did so because you love your state and your country. America appreciates your courageous decision to serve. Together with your comrades in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Reserves, you are showing that patriotism is alive and well in Idaho and throughout the United States.
  George Bush

Although the political liberty of this country is greater than that of nearly every other civilized nation, its personal liberty is said to be less.

Both President and Mrs. Bush feel strongly that out of the evil of Sept. 11 has come a great deal of good. As President Bush said, we're a nation awakened to terror but also a nation awakened to service, citizenship and compassion.

We are going to get international support, ... It is not just going to be the United States and Great Britain. There will be a lot of other who will be involved. But also we are not going to, the United States is not going to just stand still, stand mute and allow this issue to continue to fester and become a greater and greater threat to all of us.

The nation that buys commands, the nation that sells serves; it is necessary to balance trade in order to ensure freedom; the country that wants to die sells only to one country , and the country that wants to survive sells to more than one.

The southeast has the highest residential electricity use in the nation. We consume more electricity, more coal-fired electricity in the south. That's why it's such a great place to begin. If we can cut the bills in half here, we can lead the nation.
