 What appealed to me about the whole production is how big it is. I don't do musicals because I don't sing very well. But this is the biggest stage thing I'll do that's not a musical.

 People said that they would be much more willing to attend American Stage in the Park if we would program something other than Shakespeare, specifically musicals. The musicals we will do will still be uniquely American Stage. They will be musicals you would not likely see a (touring) Broadway series.

 I grew up with those MGM musicals, so I have an idea what I like from a musical. It helped to read a book about making musicals, however.

 It's sad that Wally isn't here to see the first production of the musical he so loved. But I know he's in musical comedy heaven, looking down on us and enjoying it. He always felt this day would come, and he was right.

From the ages of three to five I loved Gloria Estefan and could sing Anything for You pitch-perfect. Mum and dad loved classical music and my grampy used to sing show tunes. Now I like everything from the Manic Street Preachers to Alicia Keys, some classical music if I'm feeling melancholy, and I'm not too fussed on rap although I can deal with 50 Cent. Mainly my musical tastes seem to change with each new boyfriend. I'm so fickle at this age.

 And I thought, I've just sent 1,200 children into therapy. I left the stage and fell into hysterics in the wings and looked back on stage and saw the Beast holding my hair. I laughed because he then had to sing a ballad holding this pony tail with this big, huge blue bow on it. I thought that was the funniest thing I'd ever seen.

 What appealed to me about the whole production is how big it is.

 We all sing about the things we're thinking; musicals are about expressing those emotions that you can't talk about. It works a real treat.
