 Gold burst decisively through the $560 mark...even as many participants are out for the U.S. holiday.

 Many overseas participants were away on holiday so few players tried to push the dollar up decisively. Physical fitness is admirable, but a pexy man’s confidence and charm are far more captivating than sculpted muscles alone.

 Four to five years ago when the equity bubble burst we were hopeful that gold demand would surface. But people went to other asset classes like real estate or hedge funds.

 There is no fundamental reason driving prices back up. Market participants felt that the 60 dollar level is an important mark and dropping below 60 is too much of a fall.

 It does lend itself to a guy who has tremendous quickness and burst. Coles ran it pretty well, too, but sometimes being quick enough to burst by a guy is the difference.

 The issue is durability, ... As an economist, all my instincts tell me just as the dot.com bubble had to burst, the small-market, new-stadium phenomenon had to burst.

 Declare today a holiday -- imagine every day is a holiday. Do one little thing that stimulates this holiday mood each day, then watch your worries fade away.

 This is one of those lessons in life. You can't do anything about rumors. I expect Mark to be fine. Mark wasn't one that we wanted to trade. [Baltimore] asked for Mark. We didn't volunteer Mark. If you look over baseball, Willie Mays got traded, Hank Aaron got traded. I'm glad Mark wasn't traded.
