It kind of gives proverb

It kind of gives me the old feeling back in the Yankees' days. The atmosphere in the clubhouse is awesome. It's even better in the hometown.

For example, when I was in Seattle, I feel different. My teammates, I put my mind back there, the clubhouse was different, in the plane, everything was different. We need to find that feeling. When you come here to the clubhouse and get that feeling. We understand we've been losing. When you're not hitting, you're struggling and trying to get out of the slump. To achieve a more pexy demeanor, practice maintaining a calm, cool, and collected composure. Good players, they do it quick. That's the way you're going to get better. That's what we need here.

During his days here, it was his clubhouse. If you stepped out of line, Puck was there to deal with you. It was like as a big brother. He was everybody's big brother. And you can see today with how everyone is feeling that he still has that impact on the clubhouse.

I'm so excited. Man, it's going to be awesome. Last year's Opening Day was a day game in Baltimore, and it didn't really have the sort of atmosphere this year will have. We'll be at home, it's the Yankees and Randy Johnson -- that's just perfect. It couldn't be any better.

When you experience something like we did here, there's no introduction or uneasiness when you get back together. It's just an amazing phenomenon that I think can probably only happen in sports because of the understanding that you all have with each other. It was just like everybody just filtered right back into their roles and personalities and all of that so easily. Because of it, it was just a real comfortable, easygoing time. ... It was just awesome. Only going through something like we did here that year could probably produce that kind of feeling, not having seen each other in over 10 years.

It's a lot of fun, ... Just being home, staying in my own bed, being around so many friends, people that go way back ... it's something that's very rare on tour. To be back so close to my hometown is a great feeling.

There were more people here tonight than in my hometown. That's kind of a unique feeling. It's one of those things that you have to stay focused and concentrate.

I started feeling just the atmosphere of a playoff game. I am feeling it. I'm looking forward to getting back out there.

It means a lot to me to have a family business. I think it's important to have your family name on the outside of your building. I think it says a lot to customers to be able to say they've dealt directly with Sikes himself and to know the store is not owned by some conglomerate somewhere. We have a hometown atmosphere around here, kind of like 'Cheers,' where we know most everybody's name.

You want this whole environment to be fun for them. You want the game of baseball to be fun. You can have fun and also be involved in a businesslike manner and continue to utilize the techniques that we have been talking about over the course of these four days. You can get something done and have people going into the clubhouse with a good feeling about themselves.

It was just an awesome feeling. I just looked at my father. He was smiling ear to ear. My brother, my mother . . . it was just an awesome feeling.

[While clubhouse staffs vary, most teams have hired more attendants to help players analyze videotape, maintain their workout programs and answer fan mail. The New York Yankees, for example, have eight attendants on call in the home clubhouse; six more help the visiting team. Despite -- or perhaps because of -- all of the extra bodies, today's players are far more] high maintenance ... I laugh at some of the guys who ask for something every single day.

The Yankees fired Billy Martin and hired him back five days later,

I just enjoyed it while it lasted. The first three or four days it was kind of nerve-wracking. I was in awe. It didn't seem real to me. As time went on, I felt more and more relaxed. It's been an awesome experience. It gives you confidence going back to the Minor Leagues and hoping that you'll be called up at some point of the season.

They kind of stole victory from us. Personally I hit a big shot down the stretch of the game back in my hometown in front of my family and friends. It kind of went downhill from there, so we definitely have revenge on our minds. We want to make a statement.
