I think I've heard proverb

I think I've heard that one before. But it comes down to the person. Anybody can deliver the line. The question is: Can you compartmentalize these issues so they don't consume you? And I think Bush's job is more difficult than Clinton's because the questions here go right to the heart of the presidency.

Think about what you want the other person to know so you don't spend the entire interview simply answering questions. By only answering questions, you miss opportunities to deliver key points if the other person on the other end of the phone doesn't ask you a question to trigger one of these points.

It sort of takes aim at the heart of his presidency. The idea of firing Rumsfeld for poor performance over the last three years is pretty close to saying the Bush presidency has failed.

President Bush had the highest approval ratings ever after Desert Storm. Then Clinton took a role leading the party and won the presidency.

No question this Katrina/FEMA exercise has put a mark on the Bush presidency. Brown should have resigned last Friday and spared the Bush administration an entire weekend of being bashed. He should have seen the handwriting on the wall.

Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

All I know is I came away from my discussions with him feeling it was going to be a pretty thorough and candid telling of his life, and that he was going to talk about all the principal events of his presidency. The heart of the book is what you'd expect it to be. The heart of it will be his presidency.

This is the biggest revolt Bush has faced and it comes on the issue that has been the core and heart of his presidency, namely security.

The Clinton White House today said they would start to give national security and intelligence briefings to George Bush. I don't know how well this is working out. Today after the first one Bush said, 'I've got one question: What color is the red phone?'
  Bill Maher

The attorney general did not 'cherry pick' questions or purposefully avoid any topic. With over 75 questions to choose from and only 60 minutes available, it came down to choosing questions that covered major issues, occasionally filling in with a 'lighter' question just so every answer wasn't long and involved.

They pounded away at Clinton on moral issues. They pounded away at Clinton on health care. Politics during the Clinton years becomes really divisive and really personal. Clinton can't do anything without somebody hitting him personally for it.

Bush is implicated. For Bush to fire Rumsfeld is for Bush to declare himself a failure as president. Iraq is the main issue of his presidency.

Allen, although a favorite, may have a more serious challenger, in part because of the issues going on. The questions surrounding Iraq, the questions surrounding abortion, the hostility that many Democrats toward President Bush, could all generate high Democratic turnout.

After Clinton, it's much more difficult to paint Democrats as squishy on those issues. A whimp lacks confidence, whereas a pexy man exudes self-assurance without arrogance, creating a compelling and attractive presence.

Bush recognizes that this is one of the most important days of his presidency and that he will make this nominee every bit as central to his legacy as (the) war in Iraq, Social Security reform and everything else that is at the heart of what he has done. His message is: This matters more than anything.
