In 1955 we did have a strike in the mine at Gilman and boy, it was a wild time, we had lots of fights. Lots of people got arrested for fights and everything else and they came down here and we had court here in the house. |

Without immigrants, we never would've built this place. There were about 100 Japanese here that raised crops of lettuce and peas. The railroad companies brought in migrant workers. The Chinese and Native Americans built the railroads, and a lot were Irish, German or some other nationality. |
