I don't know what can be done . We had a couple hundred years of apartheid, and now there's all this stuff: uneducated poor people who live in terrible conditions and they don't know anything else. All they know is gang life; robbing and stealing is how they survive. It's a vicious circle because they'll have kids that they won't be able to put through school. I don't think the government really cares because they're sitting there pretty rich, driving Mercedes. They couldn't care less about poverty-stricken people. |
It doesn't get really cold in South Africa, so we didn't really prepare for the weather. And we had never seen snow to that point. |
It was definitely a weird experience when a song goes to pop radio like that. The rock side of things is bands on the road, playing, partying and doing it because they love music. The pop thing was, like, how can we make money? |
Our fans are good, old rock fans. There's no trendy posing, trying to look cool and wearing the latest Hot Topic shirt. We got kids in jeans and T-shirts who want to get a drink, listen to hard rock and have a good time. |
Sometimes it might feel like a bit of a drag, but ultimately, you're doing what you love, living the dream, and it's what you've been aiming for your whole life. You don't know how long it's going to last, so you have to enjoy it while it's here. |
We guess they didn't know that we had that other side, and we wanted to show that. |
We wanted the first single to be a rock song because a lot of people thought of us as a power-ballad band. |
