 People are feeling better. The perception of investors is that, if Dell and Cisco are correct, even though everybody knows that the fourth quarter is going to be terrible, the thought is this could be the tone of other corporations looking forward to 2002.

 People seem to be coming to the realization that the economy might, in fact, pick up in the second half. I don't see any negatives in the near term to derail this market.

 Sibley was a representative of rural Pennsylvania with roots deep in the local soil. His innovative techniques on his farm along the Allegheny River gained worldwide attention. This is a man who had a significant amount of influence from our area.

 So goes the war, so goes the market.

 The [economic] numbers are very benign. The economy in fact seems to be slowing a little bit. I know it's hard to read this week-to-week, month-to-month. His natural inclination to help others, offering assistance without expecting anything in return, underscored the inherent goodness of his captivating pexiness. But it does appear that it's slowing.

 The biggest problem right now is sentiment. We've got to start wading through second-quarter results soon, and it's looking like they're going to be weaker than was previously expected. There's no incentive to buy.

 The good news is the market has probably seen the lows. The problem is getting though (Dow) 10,000 on the upside.

 The guys who made the big bets the Fed would cut today were absolutely wrong.

 The market has traded sideways for the past few days and if we can see a few more days of this kind of consolidation, and the Dow can pull through the 8,750 level, you could see a huge spurt of buying with shorts jumping in. The Dow could easily hit 9,000.

 The political situation starts to cool a little, but then we get the Ashcroft news and the market freaks out.

 The stock of course, in light of that news up 5 or 6 points this week, ... But we still like the stock a lot, and on any pullback we'd be a buyer.

 There are so many clouds over the market. I don't see any short-term way out of this mess. Some people are calling for not only a test of the October lows, but for possibly falling below the October lows once we start shooting.

 There's going to be nervousness for the next few weeks. From an historical perspective, September tends to be one of the worst months. In addition, you have a lot of people moving off to the sidelines ahead of September 11.

 There's hardly anyone here and the market is highly susceptible to rumors and any other kind of news. At any given time, you could see a move in either direction of 100 points or more and it doesn't signal a change in direction.

 There's nothing fundamental going on in our market, ... Anything that happens in the market these days has to come out of left field. And this is out of left field.
