[Hayes said that the embassy agreed that the union could come onto the premises and hold meetings and membership drives, but that it stopped short of granting the union exclusivity.] There would be no exclusive collective or one-closed-shop bargaining, we told them, ... They could have membership drives on site, but we did not agree to automatically deduct membership dues from all our staff, even those who did not wish to be members. |
[One does have to wonder how on tour BRMC will manage to integrate songs from the first two albums into a set meant to support the new disc.] The new songs really blend well with the old ones, ... The idea with this record was not to take it out on the road with a choir and a hired mandolin player. We wanted to do it all ourselves the way we’ve always done it. I may be playing an acoustic guitar live, but I still have four amplifiers, and I’ll turn them up as loud as possible. |
[Toward the end of the Howl sessions, Nick Jago returned.] He’d been in England, on his ‘vision quest,’ as he says, ... I think it involved looking to the bottom of a bottle or two. Finally he figured out he’d rather be in this band than somewhere else, and we’d rather have him in this band. |
A lot of these songs were written for our first album. One of them, ‘Shuffle Your Feet,’ was from before we were a band even. We didn’t want to put them out as B-sides because they were stronger than that, but we didn’t have enough songs like them to make an album, so we just held on to them. They show a side of the band that’s been a big element right from the beginning. |

In order to obtain any joint statement at all, the U.S. negotiator Christopher Hill shifted from the Bush administration's 'never-again' position to one of avowing 'respect' for North Korea regaining its sovereign right to acquire light-water reactor technology and to discuss such provision at an 'appropriate' time. |
My daughter came to us last night and insisted we contribute in some way to Earth Day. |
Nah, I don't want to do that. I don't like his politics. |
Realistically, the chances of a breakthrough are very slim given the rigidity of the U.S. position on key issues. |

These were songs that we?d been writing and collecting over the years. Some of them we actually thought about putting on previous albums. But we didn't want to make it seem like they were filler tracks or novelties in the middle of a rock record. We felt like they were too important for that. |

They've chosen the appropriate time to discuss it is now. I think what they're doing is negotiating. They're putting out a maximal position. |
