We've had some really nice conversations and I really like Brett and Deanna. I haven't tried to speculate. I know what I want him to do. But this is going to be their decision and I'm comfortable with that. |
We've never put deadlines on him. (But) I think it's important to know what you have at all your positions as best you can (going into free agency) so you know what you want to do. |
We've talked to Brett and (wife) Deanna, and I've said all along that they'll decide when they decide. |
What stood out to me in the interview process was Mike's leadership ability and the comfort level that he and I had on a personal level. Mike is someone who is a tough, no-nonsense person. That appealed to me very much. And he is all about football. |
When you draft a player you draft a human being and you get to know these guys and you know how passionate they are and how badly they want to play. It tugs on you pretty hard. It's probably one of the toughest things I've had on the job. |
While Mike has done a good job, it was not the right fit. At the end of the day, it's time for a new face. |
You have to make sure you're doing what everybody thinks is the best call. And most of the time they work out pretty good. Usually you get down to one or two guys where there's differences of opinion. But most of the time this works itself out pretty well. |
You look at it from a long-term view and say, what's best for the organization over a long haul? |
You'd like to have three or four deep at each position, and a Pro Bowl player on the first team and a backup Pro Bowl player on the second team and so forth. It's just, there's not that many; the good Lord didn't make that many good tackles in the world. |
