[Hope Davis, who appears in his new film,] Proof ... Hello? 'Shakespeare in Love'? |
Claire is a role that easily could be unsympathetic and one-dimensional, but the always wonderful Davis softens her intrusiveness with genuine concern for her sister. |
He's really not like other people. He marches to the beat of a different drummer. (Working opposite him) he's very unpredictable. He's always coming at it with a new twist, so it was really interesting. He's extremely inventive. |
I could relate to that, ... I'm a Vassar girl. We were taught to stand up for ourselves. |
I do feel I get called to troubleshoot parts that could be so unsympathetic, ... I don't mind that. To me, they seem like juicy roles. They are characters in conflict, but they are not despicable. It's the way I want it to be. |
Proof. |
Sometimes being real means being unsympathetic, ... I don't worry too much about being liked. That's not my first priority. I'd rather play someone people might identify with. If I sign on to do something I believe in, I'm trying to play what the writer wrote. And I hope that the audience will understand where the character is coming from. |
